Stephen W. Robertson is the current managing partner and a shareholder of Hardy Erich Brown & Wilson and is a member of the firm’s labor and employment and tort litigation departments.

Mr. Robertson’s tort litigation practice includes defending ADA, products liability, construction defects, trucking and automobile accidents, premises liability, intentional torts such as fraud, defamation, assault and battery, and bad faith insurance cases. His litigation practice also includes the defense of medical professionals, medical facilities, and elder abuse cases.

Stephen’s labor and employment practice includes providing advice and counseling to employers on compliance with laws in the areas of hiring, promotion, discipline, termination, compensation, harassment, substance abuse, wage and hour, and independent contractor arrangements. He routinely works with employers to perform periodic reviews of policies and practices to assure compliance with changing laws. He provides training and practical guidance on a wide range of subjects, including maintaining a workplace free of harassment and discrimination, and effective hiring and discipline. Mr. Robertson further represents businesses in litigation matters in all aspects of employment related disputes in state and federal court, both at the trial and appellate levels, and before federal and state administrative agencies such as the EEOC, the Department of Fair Employment & Housing, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Industrial Relations.

Stephen has tried and/or assisted on over 40 jury trials, court trials, and hearings and handled multiple arbitrations. Stephen has extensive experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution having mediated numerous cases.

Stephen’s clients include insurance companies, small “mom and pop” type businesses, family owned enterprises, religious organizations, government agencies, nonprofit groups, and numerous employers in the healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, service and hospitality industries.

Stephen is admitted to the California Bar, and is admitted to practice in all California courts. He is further admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Northern Districts of California. He is an active member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California.

Mr. Robertson was born and raised in the Midwest in Quincy, Illinois. After completing high school, he attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Political Science in 2000. During his Knox College years, Stephen was active with his Fraternity (Phi Gamma Delta) as well as the Knox College football and track and field programs where he served as a leader and captain. Stephen immediately enrolled in law school after his undergraduate education and obtained his Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law in 2003. During law school, he continued his passion for track and field and served as the Assistant Throws Coach for the Valparaiso University track and field program. During law school, he served as a judicial clerk for the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court for Adams County, Illinois and clerked at the law firm of Katz Huntoon & Fieweger.

Mr. Robertson began his legal career with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office before starting his civil practice. Stephen joined Hardy Erich Brown & Wilson in May 2010. When not working, Stephen spends time with his wife Juliette and his two children, Jillian and Allison. He also remains active as a volunteer Assistant Coach in Track and Field and supports and volunteers with various charitable organizations including the National MS Society, the American Cancer Society, and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
