Coell Simmons joined Hardy Erich Brown & Wilson’s medical malpractice and tort litigation departments in 2018 and has been a partner since 2020. She focuses her practice on the defense of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers in medical malpractice actions, and on general tort litigation.
Ms. Simmons grew up outside of Yosemite National Park. She was awarded a full-tuition Regents Scholarship to the University of California, Merced. During university, she worked as a campground ranger in Yosemite Valley with the National Park Service. She served as a congressional intern and was the inaugural University of California, Merced Congressional Fellow in Washington D.C. She was also a founding justice on the Associated Students U.C. Merced Judicial Court.
Prior to law school, she attended the Pre-Law Summer Institute for American Indians and Alaska Natives at the American Indian Law Center in New Mexico. She then attended the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law as a full-tuition Anthony M. Kennedy Fellow. During law school, she served as an associate managing and technical editor of the Pacific McGeorge Global Business & Development Law Journal, and as an intern with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office and the Yolo County Superior Court. She also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Edmund F. Brennan, United States Magistrate Judge at the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California.
Ms. Simmons has practiced for both defense and plaintiff civil litigation firms in Sacramento, specializing in non-profit corporation defense, general tort litigation, wildfire litigation, and medical malpractice claims. She enjoys spending time with her family and hiking with her dogs.
